Mmm…Yogen Fruz |
Hey guys, sorry for the lack of updates lately. It’s the end of the school year, and I’ve been swamped with readings and essays (the perks of being an english major). Exams also start next week so that should be…fun. I will definitely have regular updates again in April though, and talk about exciting summer related things!
Also, a special thanks to Rita for the blog award!
Speaking of summer, I always find this the best time to make any resolutions as New Years resolutions never last until the end of February. For good reason too – 8am in the middle of a blizzard doesn’t seem like a good idea for that proposed daily jog even though on New Years Eve (usually thanks to the influence of alcohol) it seemed brilliant.
I tend to find making resolutions pretty boring. If anyone ever asks, my yearly resolution is always “to become rich and famous by starring in an asian pepsi commercial.” (Hey- it’s a lot more likely to happen than those 8am jogs)
During the summer, these resolutions are so easy to keep since you’re practically forced to go to the gym everyday if you intend on going to the beach, and obviously everyone loves the beach (unless you’re a vampire). Summer also means lots of ice cream dates, skimpy clothing (good for rekindling old romances, starting new ones or having affairs), and extra free time allows you to go find enlightenment or the meaning of life or whatever in some third-world country.
In any case, I prefer keeping a “to-do list” rather than making resolutions. Here’s what’s on my summer to-do list this year!
Cleaning out my closet
Since I’m moving out of my apartment at the end of April, this gives me the perfect opportunity to donate the majority of the clothes I have. I really like the idea of living minimally and less clothes means I can conveniently fit it all in one suitcase, which is perfect for traveling. (Actually, it’s mainly an excuse so I can go buy some pieces I’ve been eyeing at ZARA).
Traveling to Europe
Preferably Germany, which will be very likely considering my summer job, and if I score high enough on the language test.
Becoming fluent in German
All I can say is, I’ve been watching Goodbye Lenin! way too many times. But of course it will all pay off once I pass my language test, and for when I move to Germany next year. And if I ever meet Daniel Bruehl.
Keeping a Journal
My life is crazy so I like writing about it. Especially with my flight attendant job this summer, I will for sure be keeping a journal. I’m planning on putting together a few of my past journals together, and publishing it as a travel memoir, which I’ll be working on sometime soon. Very exciting!
Star in an asian pepsi commercial
Guys, I think this will be the year! I mean, I was once in a commercial, I’ve had my picture taken for the style section of an asian newspaper, and occasionally I drink pepsi (preferably mixed with rum). If those aren’t the attributes of an asian pepsi commerical star in the making, I don’t know what is.
What’s on your summer to do list?
hahaha i'm cracking up – "preferably with rum". Sounds like a great goal – I'll be looking for you on tv!
@Brenna [fabuleuxdestin] yes, i'd say that' the only way to properly drink it! 🙂
You're welcome :).
I can relate to you in so many ways here! Goodbye Lenin is one of my favourite films ever, and one of my dream jobs is being a flight attendant. I think the idea of writing a journal is great, I would love to hear some of your adventures. Your summer plans seem great, I can't wait for summer time also, specially the travelling part, i'm wanting to go to the Netherlands, have you ever been there?
I also would like to live more minimally. I, however, live with a man who is a firm believer in the clan of 'We might need that some day.' It's a constant battle over what goes and what stays…
Inevitably if it goes without his approval he 'needs' it within days and I'm forced to say I don't know what happened to it…
Haha – love these resolutions, and your summer sounds like it will be so exciting! For us it's turning into winter which kinda sucks, but I guess excuses for red wine and hot chocolate are never a bad thing 🙂
xoxo

Sounds great being a travel writer, roaming the world both in mind and body, little like: Eat,Pray..take care and thanks for sharing..xx V
Haha, these are great to-do's. You can learn German, no prob. If I can do it, anyone can. And star in an Asian pepsi commercial!?!? Sounds awesome!!
Haha you could definitely star in that commercial!
I just found your blog today, and I'm super happy I did cause
1. I too am a traveloholic, and
2. I too am from Toronto!
:o)
I love your ambitious Pepsi goal, you should write them a letter.
And my to-do list seems to never end. But what else is going to keep me motivated, right? Right!
Happy Friday,

Rita – You have great taste in movies! No havent been to the Netherlands yet, but I will once I move to Europe. I have a friend in Amsterdam who I'd love to see!
C – throw it all out when he's not at home! 🙂
Jenna – I bet winter in SA is still pretty warm! In Australia, winters are about 20-30 degrees, which is warmer than most of our summers!
I am Folklore – yea, that's the dream!
TexaGermaNadian – Thanks for the encouragement! 🙂
Sonja – That's so awesome! Your blog looks super cool as well!
