Poland: A Photo Essay

This is part 2 of Miriam’s European photo essay series, this time featuring Poland! I have yet to visit Poland, but I’m sure I will once I move to Europe this fall!

No. 1

This trip was about visiting my family, this was in Nowy Sącz. We were just out playing board games, and this was the time my brother and I both started counting in our heads in Polish, weirdest experience ever.

No. 2

At my babcia’s/grandma’s house near Lublin. The country air is so nice and the old church and cemeteries are something I had never seen before.

No. 3

I’m actually not sure where this was exactly, we rode up to a hiking area and the scenery was amazing. We were there during May and so there were a lot of school trips going on at this time.

No. 4

Again at my grandma’s house, we watched a lot of Polish soap operas and talk shows. And my grandma made us pierogi for breakfast..she woke up at 6 AM to have them ready, the best!

No. 5

Definitely a place to check out, Morskie Oko. Pack a sweater, some good hiking boots, leave early in the morning, pack some sandwiches and drinks and take the hike to this body of water. What a view!

No. 6

A more serious trip to Auschwitz (concentration camp) in Oświęcim. I had wanted to go here for as long as I can remember and it was a very powerful and moving experience. I think everyone should visit to remember those who were lost and let’s hope it never happens again.

No. 7

Sanktuarium Bożego Miłosierdzia, a very interesting form of architecture, something I hadn’t seen around the country before. The inside was beautiful and it was actually the place I had seen in a photo many years ago, a nice surprise walking in as well. There is also a small church nearby we went into as well only to discover the mass we walked into was in German and have the people in the church left. 😉

No. 8

Muzeum Zamkowe in Pszczyna. A eleborate palace/museum in a very cute town. We had some great drinks and talks and a lovely train ride there. We also had to wear little booties inside the museum and had to have a pass to take photos.

No. 9

Kraków, even 4 years later and spending so little time here I can point on a map and mark the routes we took. The Sukiennice for open market shopping, feeding pigeons at the Main Market Square, the Gothic Wawel Castle. And hearing the trumpet signal every hour at St. Mary’s Basilica.

No. 10

Best trip ever. This was my first time being close to any sort of mountain. Kasprowy Wierch was a beautiful site, we took a small hike, but since we were just in our running shoes and shorts (on ground level it was really hot!) it wasn’t the safest idea. But the air was so crisp and I was pretty sure I’d just build a hut grab my lap top and live in the mountains with goats forever. Don’t forgot to have some kotlet schabowy and a nice, cold glass of Tyskie beer.
