Some of my favourite things from my time in New York City!

I’ve always loved New York City. Back in my art school days, I would always daydream about living there and going to school at FIT or Pratt, and living some sort of life that’s reminiscent to one of those chick lit novels like The Devil Wears Prada (minus the evil boss of course).

(Fast forward a few years, and it’s crazy to think that I’ve lived in so many other cities (that’s not New York!), and that in less than a month, I’ll be making my way down to a little Bavarian town called Regensburg!)

I’ve been to NYC many times, but I’ve only been there when I’m of legal drinking age twice (uh no you’re probably wondering where this blog post is heading right?!). Once about two years back, but I was pre-occupied with my cousin’s wedding/preparations. And the other time was about two weeks back…

So what were my favourite things that I did there?

Being on America’s Got Talent!

Tania got us tickets to go see America’s Got Talent on my first night in NYC, and it was definitely fun being part of the audience (although a bit exhausting I have to admit from all the cheering we all had to do! it’s not an easy job, but someone’s got to do it!)

We weren’t allowed to take photos during the show, but here’s one of the stage right before the commercial break ended!

Can you spot Heidi in the judges panel?

One of the most interesting things however, actually happened after the show. As we were about to exit the building, the elevator door opened and while we didn’t meet Heidi, one of the guys from the Chicago Boyz (they were one of the acts that made it past the semi-finals!) came down because of his broken leg. We ended up talking to him, and he invited us to party with them in the Hilton!

We didn’t quite believe it until a few hours later, when we actually were in the Hilton, hanging out with the Chicago Boyz! (And for those who don’t don’t know who they are, here’s a clip of their act!). They’re known for their human jump rope act, so it’s def worth the watch!

Exploring the boroughs!

In the past, every time I’ve been to New York, I’ve only stayed in Manhattan or Queens, where my cousins live. This time, it was so fun partying in the Bronx, and exploring Brooklyn! Tania, despite being from New York, has never gone on the Brooklyn Bridge either, so it was fun doing something overly touristy together!

In Manhattan, Tania took me to the high lines one day, which I’ve never been to. It’s basically an elevated linear park on what used to be a railroad that’s about a mile long. It was pretty cool walking through Manhattan without the hustle and bustle, and we even met a few celebrities there like one of the Jonas brothers.

Going to my first rave!

And of course, no trip to NYC is complete without doing something crazy…like going to a rave! I had always wanted to go to a rave in Eastern Europe, which I never got to do last year (perhaps this year), so when Tania invited me to one with her and her friends, I was excited!

And it did not disappoint! Check out all the rave “kandi” that I got!!

It was like being in a world with an endless supply of glowing objects…and plenty of people eager to give you a light show!

Have you seen a light show? Or been to a rave? What’s your favourite memory of New York City?

One thing’s for sure…it’s definitely a city that never sleeps!

Wow, New York sounds a great place to be, although I never got a chance to visit this city but I heard a lot about this city’s lifestyle.

Very nice photos and despite New York city becoming more respectable for tourists, New York is still chock full of the sinful delirium that we all know and love.

New York is high on my list to visit! I really want to go with someone (or meet up with a blogger friend) who knows the city and lay of land so to speak. That is total awesomesauce that you got to be in the audience at the show, Michelle πŸ™‚
